PRN Chaplain – Spiritual Care

Chaplains provide spiritual support to patients, families and caregivers, helping facilitate spiritual healing and enhance well-being. In this role, you will touch lives and make lifelong differences in the lives of everyone you encounter. This role requires availability from 4:00 PM–8:00 AM on weekdays and 24-hour availability on weekends, with approximately 26 hours of on-call coverage every two weeks. Additional prescheduled shifts and PTO coverage may be available.

Candidates must live within 30 minutes of Fairview Hospital.  A monthly scheduling meeting is held at 12 PM on the first Wednesday of each month that you are required to attend.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide education and consultation for physicians, nurses and other caregivers.  
  • Offer spiritual care and counseling for patients, families and caregivers of all faith groups, ages and conditions.  
  • Foster spiritual resources for healing.  
  • Provide crisis and ongoing care.  
  • Work regular and on-call hours.  

Education:

  • Master's degree of Divinity or equivalent preferred.
  • Satisfactory completion of a minimum of four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education.
  • Offset: Bachelor's degree, 3 years of ministry experience & satisfactory completion of one (1) or two (2) units of Clinical Pastoral Education with expectation to get four (4) CPEs within two (2) years of hire.

Languages:

  • English

Certifications:

  • Credentialing, certification, or eligibility within two (2) years by a certifying organization or certification as an Association of Clinical Pastor Education (ACPE educator).

Complexity of Work:

  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
  • Counseling and support for all faith groups, ages, and conditions.
  • Crisis and on-going care.
  • On-call and regular work hours.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Work Experience:

  • One (1) year of ministry experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, pull, push and facilitate movement of the patient.
  • Must have normal or correctable vision and hearing to be able to hear normal conversations.
