Fairview Hospital's Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) provides care to patients who may benefit from extended care. The design of this unit is to discharge or admit patients within 18 hours, starting from when the patient arrives. The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) is seeking a Nightingale RN, an experienced, recently retired hospital nurse who is passionate about mentoring and supporting the next generation of nurses. This position harnesses the skills of an experienced RN who recently retired but wants to transfer their knowledge to newer nurses within the organization. The Nightingale RN provides high-quality nursing care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols.
This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working a day/night rotation between 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with occasional float requirements
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Provide coaching, teaching, and educational material as appropriate.

Provide assessments and audits of daily practice.

Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.

Assess the educational needs of the patient and significant others considering cultural issues and other special concerns.

Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established healthcare organization policies, procedures, and protocols.

Implement and monitor patient care plans.
-
Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.

Monitor and document patient's condition and effectiveness and timeliness of care and/or interventions.
-
Evaluate, update, and revise plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.

Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing protocol.

Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.

Validate and document patient and family understanding of teaching.

Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)
-
Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN)
-
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Certification within six months of hire
-
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire
-
ONS Chemo/Bio course completed within two years of hire if employed on units where chemo is administered
-
In Dedicated Trauma Centers, Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC – adult) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC – pediatric) upon hire
-
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through American Heart Association (AHA)
-
Three years of experience in ASC OR Nurse position at Cleveland Clinic prior to retirement

Current demonstrated clinical competence
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Bachelor’s of science in nursing (BSN)
Physical Requirements:

Requires standing and walking for periods of time.
-
May require full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
-
Possible exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
-
Medium Work – May include exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
