As a Medical Technologist, you will collaborate with fellow team members in the lab to gather and provide information to enhance patient diagnosis and treatment. Using advanced instrumentation to perform testing in various areas of the lab, you will determine the validity of results and/or need for additional tests to provide vital data analysis. This role is essential in the organization and advancement of the Cleveland Clinic system.  

 

A caregiver in this position works nights from 11:00PM – 7:30AM. The schedule will be rotational with no set days. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Perform and interpret tests at all complexity levels.  

  • Correlate abnormal laboratory data with pathological states.  

  • Determine the validity of test results and the need for additional tests. 

  • Communicate test results, reference ranges, specimen requirements and other pertinent information.  

  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.  

  • Adhere to quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.  

  • Maintain instruments, equipment and clear and legible records.  

  • Perform proficiency testing.  

  • Participate in continuing education, professional development and annual competency assessments.  

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution (diploma must be provided) 

  • Education outside of the United States requires diploma/transcripts translated into English and proof of foreign equivalency from a NACES (National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.) member 

  • Meet the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel grandfathering clause 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Medical Technologist (MT) Certification or eligibility from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical demands include: Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscope.

  • Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation and tones.

  • Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipment.

  • May be required to stand for long periods of time.

  • Light lifting may be required.

  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
