The Clinical Pharmacist – Oncology Infusion supports pharmacy services within the Taussig Cancer Center, serving a high-volume oncology patient population across inpatient, outpatient infusion, decentralized, and remote care settings. This well-balanced role offers unique exposure to multiple areas of oncology pharmacy practice, including order verification, direct provider support, sterile compounding oversight, and advanced pharmacy technology, including two large-scale chemotherapy robotics systems. Pharmacists rotate through a variety of responsibilities, including remote and floor-based order verification, real-time clinical triage and provider collaboration within infusion treatment areas, in-pharmacy operational support, IV robotics oversight, chemotherapy product verification, and quality assurance of sterile medication preparations. Unlike many oncology infusion roles, this position also offers opportunities to cross-train into inpatient oncology staffing and decentralized clinical coverage, providing broad professional development and exposure to diverse patient care environments. A caregiver in this role will work Monday through Friday on a rotating day-shift schedule, which may include shifts from 7:00am to 3:00pm, 7:30am to 3:30pm, 8:30am to 4:30pm, 9:00am to 5:00pm, or 10:30am to 7:00pm, with the later shift occurring approximately five weeks per year. This role includes an every-eighth-weekend rotation from 7:00am to 3:00pm and participation in a holiday rotation of one holiday per year, alternating between major and minor holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services. 
  • Verify medication orders and/or dispenses medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.  
  • Document services in a complete, accurate and timely manner. 
  • Actively contribute to medication safety initiatives. 
  • Ensure all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards. 
  • Directs staff appropriately to provide safe and efficient care and maintain professional working relationships with all caregivers. 
  • Educate and train students, residents, other caregivers and/or patients.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • PharmD or Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy 
  • Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire 
  • For individuals required to administer immunizations, Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire are required.  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Board Certification  
  • Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience 
  • Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice area (Oncology)
  • Hospital experience in an IV/clean room environment
    strongly preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift and continuously for extended periods of time. 
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting.
  • Must have normal or corrected vision.
  • Must have ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum Annual Salary: $101,900.00

Maximum Annual Salary: $155,390.00
